“If I were not a celebrity, I would definitely go for BBNaija season six. As a matter of fact, if there is an opportunity to go into the house at any time, I will go. I am not one of the people that condemn the show. I don’t even think anyone should condemn it. Watching the show is by choice.

The show is not aired on national television. It is on cable TV where one has to subscribe with money. Participating in a reality show would not be hard for me because I have being in one before. One advantage I have is that I attended a boarding school. I actually won the show I participated in but they have not given me the prize money till now. I learnt a lot of things during that reality show. The tasks challenged me and broadened my knowledge. I like reality shows because it is a way of co-existing with different people. It also teaches one how to deal with certain circumstances.

“The reality show is a go-to place for anyone who wants to be shot into the limelight. Over the years, the cash prize (of BBN) has been increasing and now, it’s N90m.

“I know some people have condemned the show, saying that it does not teach morals. Some people also think it is misplaced priority for a young person to desire to be on the show. But, I don’t agree with that. The show is purely for entertainment, so every bit of it has to be entertaining. There are also a lot of tasks done on the show that can be classified as educative. It preaches body positivity as well. Fans going overboard and supporting their favourites is one of the interesting aspects of the show,” the comic actress said.

Dorathy Was Not Naked When We Came In - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied allegation from former Big Brother Naija show participant Dorathy Bachor, stating that the commission’s men invaded her house at the Lekki area of Lagos state.

Dorathy Bachor, second runner up of the BBNaija Lockdown edition took to her social media handle on Monday to allege the invasion, stating that the commission staff invaded her house, broke in when she was naked.

However, in a reaction to the allegation by the celebrity, EFCC in a statement made available on Monday, said the allegation by the former BBNaija reality show housemate was lies.

The statement which Nationalwatchng obtained read, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been drawn to a post on Instagram by one Dorothy Bachor, alleging that operatives of the Commission broke into her home in the early hours of today, 23rd August, 2021.

“The Commission can confirm that operatives from the Lagos Command of the Commission, acting on verified intelligence, executed a Search Warrant at a block of flats located in the Lekki area of Lagos on Monday, 23rd August, 2021 during which nine internet fraud suspects were arrested.

“Ms. Bachor’s apartment happened to be one of the flats in the building. EFCC operatives had knocked on her entrance door, identified themselves as being from the Commission on a mission to execute a Search Warrant. But they were refused entry, for several minutes by Bachor’s sister. The operatives were left with no choice than to force their way in, lest suspects escape or destroy vital evidence.

“It is important to state that law abiding citizens have no reason to refuse the execution of a validly obtained Search Warrant. And, contrary to the information making the rounds in the social media, Ms. Bachor was not present during the operation and the anti- EFCC stories about her coming out half-naked among other fantastical details appear to have been invented to fit the pattern she and other internet-fueled stars so desperately want to push about the EFCC.

“It is important to reiterate that nine alleged internet fraud suspects were apprehended in the block of flats housing Ms. Bachor’s apartment.” the statement read.

Ghana Is Champion Of Democracy, Twitter Replies FG, Nigerians

Tech giant, micro-blogging site and leading social networking site, Twitter, has replied to criticism by Nigerians, including politicians in the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, led Federal government, that it chose Ghana against Nigeria, because Ghana is champion of democracy.

Twitter said Ghana, a country in West Africa like Nigeria, but small in population when compared to Nigeria’s over 200 million population, is not only African Champion of democracy, but also “is a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate.”

Twitter disclosed this in a post by Kayvon Beykpour and Uche Adegbite, Product Lead, Twitter and Co-Founder, Periscope and Director, Product Management, Global Markets, respectively.

“Twitter’s mission is to serve the public conversation, and it’s essential, for the world and for Twitter, to increase the number of people who feel comfortable participating in it. To do this, we need to make it easier for everyone to join in and provide more relevant experiences for people across the world.

“Today, in line with our growth strategy, we’re excited to announce that we are now actively building a team in Ghana. To truly serve the public conversation, we must be more immersed in the rich and vibrant communities that drive the conversations taking place every day across the African continent.

“As a champion for democracy, Ghana is a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate. Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa.

“Whenever we enter new markets, we work hard to ensure that we are not just investing in the talent that we hire, but also investing in local communities and the social fabric that supports them. We have already laid foundations through partnerships with Amref Health Africa in Kenya, Afrochella in Ghana, Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative (MANI) in Nigeria, and The HackLab Foundation in Ghana. As part of our long-term commitment to the region, we’ll continue to explore compelling ways we can use the positive power of Twitter to strengthen our communities through employee engagement, platform activation, and corporate giving,” twitter said.

According to statista.com, in 2020 alone, the number of social media users in Nigeria reached roughly 28 million.

Of this figure, 61.4 per cent have active Twitter handles.

However, in Ghana, it said as of January 2021, Ghana registered approximately eight million active social media users, up from six million in 2019.

And of this figure, only 28.78 per cent are registered on Twitter.

Tech Giant and one of the leading social networking site in the world, Twitter, has settled in Ghana as its official African headquarter, amidst outrages.

Twitter co-founder, Jack Dorsey, announcing the decision on Monday, tweeted, “Twitter is now present on the continent. Thank you Ghana and President Nana Akufo-Addo,”

Responding, Ghana’s President thanked Twitter for its decision, adding that he had met with Dorsey and he was confident the move would be the beginning of new things.

Akufo-Addo tweeted, “The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is excellent news. The government and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country.

“As I indicated in our virtual meeting of April 7, 2021, this is the start of a beautiful partnership between Twitter and Ghana, which is critical for the development of Ghana’s hugely important tech sector. These are exciting times to be in, and to do business in Ghana.”

Nigerians were however, unhappy with the decision of Twitter to leave Nigeria which has its highest users in Africa to site its headquarter in Ghana to the neglect of Nigeria.

Though, most of the tweets of Nigerians were in anger to the Federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, who they accused that his undemocratic policies and human rights records were responsible for Twitter to snub Nigeria for Ghana.

Oke Umurhohwo tweeted, “Another Big L for Nigeria who despite having the biggest active social media users, we got over looked for Ghana. This is obviously because of the anti-business policies of APC and Buhari. Shameful!”

@opeyemifolarin1 tweeted, “Leadership is everything. Democracy is thriving in Ghana and it’s evident in the peace and stability witnessed in the country and it has contributed significantly to the productivity level and boosting investors’ confidence in Ghana economy.”

@ananabannamdi tweeted, “Largely based on textbook definition Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and probably the largest social media engaging ecosystem in Africa as well. Sadly, the nature of political hijacking, state capture, bad governance and more decadence has made us chop another “L” again!”

“But Jack, Nigeria has one of the biggest Twitter presence in Africa. Don’t worry, FG will make ease of doing business much better,” @Morris_Monye tweeted.
