Musa Sani, a 43-year-old businessman, was brought before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for suspected N1.3 million fraud.
The defendant, a resident of Zaria, Kaduna State, is charged with criminal breach of trust on a single count.
Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant committed the crime in Badarawa, Kaduna, sometime in August 2020.
Garba Mohammed committed N1.3 million to the defendant to purchase a Peugeot 307 for him, according to Leo.
He claimed the defendant took the money and put it to his own use.
All attempts by the complainant to obtain a refund of his money from the defendant, according to Leo, were futile.
The offence, he added, was in violation of Section 296 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The defendant entered a not guilty plea.
The defendant was given N200,000 bail with a reliable surety who had to have a landed property with a Certificate of Occupancy, according to Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel.
The matter was delayed until January 14, 2022, by the Magistrate.
