Northern Elders Warn Against Any Move To Label Fulanis As Terrorists

Northern Elders, united under the banner of the Northern Elders Forum, have warned against any move to label all Fulani people as terrorists.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Taiwo, was claimed to have labeled the bandits terrorizing portions of the North as terrorists, declaring their criminal activities to be acts of terrorism.

In response to the incident, the forum’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, issued a statement on Monday expressing worry that labeling bandits as terrorists could harm innocent Fulani people.

Only the criminal elements among the Fulani herdsmen, according to the group, should be subjected to the law’s wrath.

Part of the statement reads, “The Forum noted a judicial decision to label bandits and kidnappers as terrorists and recommends greater clarity in terms of the targets of this development. In any event, the Forum cautions against profiling and targeting all Fulani as terrorists.

“Millions of law-abiding Fulani’s exist who should be encouraged to stay on the side of the law, while those who have chosen to continue on the path of criminality should feel the full weight of the law”.
