Obasanjo, Jim Ovia amongst the guests anticipated at the bi-annual symposium in honour of Prof. Oyewusi.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Jim Ovia, Chairman of Zenith Bank, are among the guests anticipated at the bi-annual symposium honoring Emeritus Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

According to a statement released by Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, a cousin of the late Ibidapo-Obe, the event will take place on January 7, 2022, and will be themed ‘Viewing The World Through the Lens of Big Data,’ with Professor Toyin Ogundipe, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, as the chief host.

‘Obasanjo to Lead Prominent Guests to Symposium Dedicated in Honour of Late Oye Ibidapo-Obe,’ the announcement read.

Ibidapo-Obe was the first Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Ebonyi State, as well as the first Chairman of the Council of the First Technical University of Ibadan in Oyo State.

It partly read, “The first session of the programme is to hold between 10am and 12.30pm, with welcome address and introductions by Professor Rahmon Ade Bello, who is the event Chairman and former Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos.

“The session will also attract presentation by Professor Deji Badiru on the topic, ‘Data analytics and Systems Engineering;’ and Professor David Olowokere addressing the topic, ‘Big Data and Changing Landscape of Science,’ as well as Professor Kunle Kehinde speaking on ‘Machine Learning: A New Framework for Accelerating Scientific Discovery.’

“The second session, which is ceremonial, will see Akinbambo Ibidapo-Obe, son of the deceased, presenting a welcome address, while the former President Olusegun Obasanjo will serve as Chairman and deliver on the topic, ‘On the Assessing and Improving of Accuracy of Nigerian Population and Demographic Data.’”

According to the release, Ovia will give the keynote lecture titled “Using the Lens of Data for a Renewed Global Economic Evolution (Banking and Big Data),” and Professor Ayo Ogunye will preside over the proclamation of the Oye Ibidapo-Obe Endowed Chair in Engineering at the University of Lagos.

The Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe Memorial Anglican Church, Diocese of Ilesa, South-West, will be dedicated on January 3, 2022, according to the statement. It is located along Osogbo road in Ilesa, Osun State.
