Olanlege Gets Vote Of Confidence, Reads Out Ekiti FA Scorecard For 2020/21 Football Season

Bayo Olanlege, Chairman Ekiti State Football Association has been given a vote of confidence by his executive board member following the successes recorded by the state in the 2020/21 football season.

Olanlege whose brilliant ideas have transformed the beautiful round leather game in Ekiti State got an overwhelming thumbs up from football stakeholders in the state during the 2020/2021 Annual General Assembly held on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti.

Ekiti State is now a reference point as its now a hub of grassroot football in both male and female categories in south-west following it’s seasonal programmes, all geared towards youth development.

An elated Olanlege while reading out his board’s scorecard, said the 2020/2021 football season is one that will remain indelible in the folklore of Ekiti State Football Association under his board, making it an exemplar for other State FAs.

The Ekiti FA Cadet Teams were reinforced through the success of the Oba Ademola Ajakaiye Memorial U-13 football competition and the Prof. Akin Oyebode U-15 football competition for boys and girls.

Speaking further, the state had teams strutting their stuff in various National Leagues, with six (6) teams in the Nationwide League One (NLO) and Ekiti United FC achieving a history making place in the Nigerian National League (NNL) Super 8 competitions.

Albeit the Bet9ja Ekiti Football League which did not hold in 2021, the BAFEM CUP for men and women gave talented footballers in Ekiti State, through the best indigent clubs to showcase their talents, and they got a lot of mileage and empowerment for other officials who served during the competition.

In the history of the FA, the Olanlege led board introduced a Scholarship Scheme. 10 outstanding boys and girls scouted during the U-13 and U-15 football competitions held earlier in the year receiving education/sports scholarship through the Ekiti FA Scholarship Scheme.

On capacity building, the State FA sponsored its Secretary, Pelumi Abiara to a a course on Sports Marketing Business program organized by La Liga in partnership with the Lagos Business School. Also Coach Busuyi Olowoselu got a scholarship to the prestigious National Institute of Sports (NIS) for his coaching certification, courtesy of a donation from Nigeria Football Federation 1st Vice President Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi.

The icing on the cake of the tremendous successes of all the Ekiti FA competitions in 2021 was the inaugural Annual Merit Awards ceremony which was held to celebrate the most outstanding performances within the Ekiti Football Ecosystem in the year under review as well as to honour personalities that made substantial financial and invaluable moral support for the activities of the FA.
