On Christmas Eve in Ogun State, unknown gunmen assassinated Reverend Father Luke Adeleke, 38, as he returned from a church service.
The cleric was reportedly kidnapped and killed by gunmen in Ogunmakin, in the state’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
“Reverend Father Luke Adeleke, 38, was shot dead by gunmen while returning from a Mass on the eve of Christmas,” a source said.
The incidence was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
According to Oyeyemi, the event occurred in Ogunmakin, not Odeda, as was reported on social media.
According to him, the militants traded gunfire with nearby police officers before fleeing with bullet wounds.
He said, “It happened in Ogunmakin in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
“Policemen engaged the gunmen in gunfire. Some of them escaped with bullets wounds.”
As at the time of filing this report, attempts to obtain responses from the state’s Catholic Mission had been unsuccessful.
