FG proclaims Monday and Tuesday as public holidays.

To commemorate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, the Federal Government has proclaimed Monday, December 27th, Tuesday, December 28th, and Monday, January 3rd, 2022 as public holidays.

Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, who made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulates Christians and all Nigerians at home and abroad on the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

This was said in a statement issued on Wednesday by Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. ‘FG proclaims public holidays on Monday, January 27th, Tuesday, January 28th, 2021, and Monday, January 3rd, 2022,’ it said.

The minister was quoted as saying, “We must emulate the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on Humility, Service, Compassion, Patience, Peace and Righteousness, that His birth signifies.

“This will be the best way to portray Christ and celebrate his birth.”

He emphasized that peace and security are two essential conditions for economic progress and success, and he urged Christians and Nigerians to make the most of this festive season by praying for the complete abolition of the insecurity that plagues our beloved country.

Aregbesola also urged all Nigerians to strictly follow and enforce all non-pharmaceutical COVID-19 protocols and standards, such as wearing facemasks, washing hands often with soap and water, using hand sanitizer, and avoiding big groups.

“Moderately celebrate the festival without large groupings and observe all the protocols stipulated by medical authorities. Take it as a point of personal responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus,” the minister said.
