Thugs vandalizes PDP’s State Congress in Zamfara.

Suspected political thugs wielding lethal weapons vandalized the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Zamfara State Chapter’s State Congress.

On Monday, the party’s congress was being held, but it was disrupted by a gang of political thugs who arrived at the place armed with lethal weapons.

The PUNCH has learned that as soon as the thugs got at the location, they began assaulting and stoning PDP members, injuring many of them.

The PUNCH further learned that the thugs set fire to many cars, seats, canopies, and election materials in order to scare away PDP delegates who had assembled at the venue for the state congress.

A member of the PDP, Musa Garba said, “We had scheduled our state congress to hold today (Monday) to enable us to elect the new state executive officers to run the affairs of the party in Zamfara State.

“We have notified all the relevant security agencies in the state for smooth conduct of the exercise but to our dismay, these thugs came and started throwing stones on our members.

“They have succeeded in destroying many of our vehicles, chairs and the election materials.

“They also attempted to burn down our secretariat, opposite the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, if not for the quick response of the security agents.”

Garba questioned why anyone would send political thugs to disrupt the PDP congress in the state, and he called on security officers to examine the matter in order to punish those responsible.

For security considerations, the congress was moved to the Nigerian Army Facility (Command Guest House) in Gusau.
