Scouting Scam: Football Agent Impersonates Coach Ilechukwu Fidelis To Lure Players In Abuja

An alleged football syndicate has been caught using the good name of Plateau United Head Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu to organize a scouting programme for unsuspecting players in Abuja.

Investigations, confirmed the activities of the agent, named David Gabriel Gyan, with a phone number (08121307964) to be true, as the screening exercise was noticed in the nation’s capital as he claimed to be a representative of the CHAN Eagles Assistant Coach.

Gyan was said to be using the person of Ilechukwu to lure grassroots players seeking careers in Europe and other parts of the world, to attend the programme.

To put the record straight and draw the attention of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Football Association, Nigeria’s football family, and the general public, the former MFM FC of Lagos gaffer, says he has no idea about the scouting programme, which to him is a scam as they were using his name without his knowledge.

“It has come to my attention that a football agent based in Abuja has been using the good name I took years to build, to lure players and football academies to attend a scouting programme in which he claimed that I (Ilechukwu) is involved.

“I got to know of it from the several phone calls I received in the last week, asking if I was the organiser of the scouting programme in Abuja.

” There is no truth in such as I have never been a party to any privately arranged scouting programme without me being there physically, but them using my name is a scam.

“In the last month, I have been in Abuja serving Nigeria in the capacity of the CHAN Eagles Assistant Coach preparing the Super Eagles B team for the two-leg qualifiers against Ghana.

“I want to appeal to the appropriate football authorities and everyone that I have never and will never take part in a football scouting programme that I didn’t know the organizers.”
