Orji Kalu Rewards Enyimba #1 Million for CAF Confed Cup Win Against Al Ittihad SC

Senator Uzor Kalu has rewarded Enyimba FC for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup victory against Al Ittihad SC.

The African Pillar of Sports and former Governor on Saturday through his verified Facebook page pledged to encourage the People’s Elephants with the sum of One Million Naira if they win the Libyan team.

Enyimba on Sunday prevailed 2-0 against their Al Ittihad SC opponents in the play-off round fixture at the Enyimba Stadium, with Sadiq Abubakar and Victor Mbaoma getting the goals. In fulfilment of his promise,  Kalu, a Forbes rated billionaire, rewarded the team with One Million Naira.

While acknowledging the donation, Chairman of Enyimba FC, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu said,
“Senator Kalu had promised to reward the team with #1,000, 000a win, and following Sunday’s result, has duly fulfilled the pledge.

 “We are very thankful to the former Governor for remembering the Aba Elephants at this crucial stage. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is a man whose love for football has never been in doubt, that is why he is a Pillar of Sports in Africa. His gift is a big boost to the players.”

“This singular act has gone to underline the truth that football is an important tool for bringing people together and it is our sincere hope to continuously achieve results that will bring smiles to the faces, of our people,”  he said.

Meanwhile, the African football governing body, CAF, has told Al Ittihad of Libya to choose any of December 17, 18 and 19 to host the 1st leg of their Confederation Cup tie against Enyimba.

The 1st leg of the match was originally scheduled for Tunisia, but the game was aborted as Enyimba could not gain entry into the North African country due to strict COVID-19 rules.

Thereafter, Enyimba wrote to CAF for the game to be rescheduled and their request was granted.

However, the report monitored on Monday did not state whether the game has a new venue or it will still hold in Tunisia.
